In addition to exploring chemicals applied directly to the environment, such as fertilizers and plant protection products, our research interests focus on the risk assessment of bulk chemicals, pharmaceuticals and biocides.
Such environmental chemicals can enter agroecosystems following the application of sewage sludge and liquid manure, and due to atmospheric depositions. Sound conclusions concerning environmental compatibility may be drawn from key parameters such as exposure and toxicity, whereby our work focuses mainly on investigations into the degradation, transport, distribution and reactions of chemicals in all of the environmental compartments. To undertake experimental exposure analyses, we use established and self-designed field and lab test systems, in addition to a state-of-the-art analysis technique and the use of 14C -marked test substances.
According to the principle "no data – no market", our research activities make an important contribution to enhanced product and chemical safety.
